Working as a Makeup Artist

There are many fields in which a makeup artist can work. Nowadays, these are no longer limited to working on a TV, film or theatre set. Every day cosmetics firms take on more makeup artists in various departments: product development, marketing, communication or product management. The colour departments are getting bigger all the time in these companies, and are as important a part as cosmetic treatments.

With the right kind of training and knowledge, a makeup artist becomes a visionary, someone able to create art (whether in a theatre or on a catwalk).

Those of us makeup artists who are in fashion are an essential component for designers to work with when it comes to creating faces and sublime and special images to go with a stylistic effect or a design they have created.

Of course it’s not always so exciting. It takes time before everyone finds their place and establishes themselves.

Meanwhile, endless photo shoots, lugging cases around from studio to studio, exhausting workdays in order that a production can go ahead, and festive occasions that turn into days of hard work so that a bride can feel that she’s the most beautiful on such a special day. And while you’re working, you’ve got to keep training and learning to make the content of every day’s work ever richer.
