Beauty Pageants
There are many pageants held each
year on a local and national level. You
can start at the local level by contacting
the chamber of commerce and getting names
of pageant directors. Then you can volunteer
your services. They love this offer because
it makes their pageant more professional
to have you on board. After you gain experience,
you can approach the next level for a paid
makeup artist job, and you’ll gain
a lot of recognition and new clients.
In the pageants, you can really only help
the contestants with touching up their make
up. There is just not enough time to give
individual attention to contestants and
to do their makeup from scratch. You want
to make them look as good as you possibly
can in the short time available. The contestants
and parents are so very grateful that you
are there to assist them. It helps everyone
feel more comfortable and secure about their
looks and, of course, it doesn’t hurt
you to have all those people in the pageant
telling others about the wonderful makeup
artists that was there when they needed
it.
In addition to the publicity, pageants
are really fun to do. You get to know many
of the girls and you get a lot of satisfaction
knowing you were part of the program. It
is especially gratifying if you happen to
work with a winning contestant, knowing
you played a part in making them look as
good as possible. You will also learn about
different kinds of stage lighting and the
effect it has on makeup.
