How to Clean Makeup Brushes
It is a well known fact that makeup brushes are to be cleaned after each use to achieve the best results. But how do you go about doing that? It’s very simple and a routine that is beneficial to be consistent with in order to protect your investment.
Brushes can be deep cleansed weekly and only require a simple cleaning after each makeup application during the week.
During the Week
Wipe each natural bristled brush off on a disinfecting wet towelette. Use a back and forth motion to wipe it off well till all of the product is visibly removed from the brush.
Spray a brush cleansing liquid onto brushes with synthetic bristles and wipe off clean on a tissue. Keep spraying and wiping till the brush streaks clean.
Lay flat on a towel to dry. Do not store them wet in a horizontal position as water can seep into the handle and loosen the hairs prematurely.
Weekly Cleansing
Holding the brush with the natural bristles (pony, sable, badger, squirrel) facing downwards, run warm water over the brush.
Apply a pea sized amount of a conditioning shampoo and create a good lather in the bristles. Be careful to not wash where the bristles go into the handle as they can become loose and the brush would shed.
Rinse downwards again.
Repeat the shampooing if the brush is still dirty. This can easily occur if the hairs of the brush are very dense.
Keep rinsing till the water runs clear.
Gently pat out excess water from the brush.
Apply a conditioning mask to the brush hairs and leave on for about ten minutes.
Rinse thoroughly.
Lay flat on a towel to dry. If you have brush guards slip these on when the bristles are still damp so that the brush retains it original shape when drying.
If your brush is synthetic, the best way to truly clean it is with dishwashing liquid. This cleanser causes the oil in the creamy products to break down better than using shampoo.
Rinse and lay on a towel to dry. Always allow your brushes to dry with time instead of using a hair dryer.
Care Tips
Never boil your brushes to disinfect them as this would ruin them. If you want a disinfecting agent, add a few drops of alcohol to your shampoo.
Check the package the brushes came in for special instructions.
With clean brushes you can now face the world with a healthy and happy face.
