Eye Makeup – Take a Look at Yourself

Everyone is buzzing about makeup these days. And why shouldn’t they? We’re being bombarded by brand new products everyday, innovations every week and new discoveries every month! And the makeup that takes the limelight is eye makeup. The eyes are one of the two major focal points in the face and have been traditionally rendered as the windows to the soul. Why not draw as much attention to them as possible!

There is a plethora of ways to make up the eyes. But before you even start to put on any type of eye product, the best thing to do is to become familiar with your own peepers. This way you would choose which is best to bring out the best of your eyes.

So take a good look at your face and what do you see?

What are your eyebrows like?

We’re talking about applying eye makeup so your brows must also be taken into consideration. Are the hairs fine or thick? Curly or straight? A key to beautiful eyes is well groomed brows to frame the face and eyes. If you work on keeping your eyebrows clean and tidy, your whole face would actually benefit from a lift.

What shape are they?

Your eyes may be small or large, almond shaped or round, close set or wide spaced, slanted or drooping, creaseless or with double lids. Don’t despair! Because no matter what, your eyes are beautiful and all you need are the right tools to stun your audience.

Do not only focus on the shapes of the eyes, but also examine your lashes. Are they short, medium or long? Are they full or sparse? Thin or thick? Curly or straight?

  • If your eyelashes are short, you would want to invest in some lengthening mascara.
  • On the other hand, if you find that they are too thin, mascara with a thickening formula would work best.
  • Also, if your lashes are tightly curled, a heated eyelash curler would be right for you. The wands of these are typically small so you can get on the top of your lashes and gently apply the heat in a downward movement. The heat from the curler would temporarily loosen the curl so that you can set the look with a couple coats of mascara.
  • Take a close look at the skin around the eyes
It is important to note that this is one of the most sensitive areas of the face so one must take care to avoid any unnecessary pulling or tugging. Is the area smooth or are there fine lines? It is best at any age to use products that prevent and diminish the appearance of fine lines as well as tighten up the skin to counteract sagging and puffiness.

And lastly, do not overlook the importance of the colour of your irises as they would influence which colours of eyeshadows would look best on you. Are they green, brown, dark brown, grey, blue or a mixture?

Once you have gotten accustomed to your eyes, you would appreciate the appropriate tactics to make them, and essentially you, stand out.
