Brown Eyes Makeup

Brown eyes are so widespread and so loved that songs have been penned and sung about girls with brown eyes. Hazel and chestnut coloured eyes are striking on any complexion and especially so on those with dark skins. What is even more exciting is the fact that brown eyes look great with virtually any colour of eyeshadow.

If you have dark brown eyes, look for lighter shades and if you have light brown eyes, darker tones would flatter you more.

Neutral Colours

Neutral colours for brown eyes would be those of the brown family. Think beige, vanilla, taupe, chocolate and peach. An ideal highlight colour for the inner lachrymal area and under the brow would be gold. When brown eyes are surrounded by a flattering and contrasting brown (lighter shades around darker eyes and vice versa), the colour of the irises stands out more and this draws attention to the eyes.

Bold Colours

Since brown eyes look great in any colour eyeshadow, jewel toned shades are ideal to make brown eyes make a statement.

  • If your eyes are a lighter brown, opt for jewel tones of blue, purple, gold, red and green, orange.
  • If your eyes are a darker brown, choose shades like medium to lighter blues, lilacs, pale greens, yellows and pinks.
  • Many times a combination of light and darker jewel toned shadows with a neutral shade looks great on all brown eyes. For example, you can use a dark gold shadow on the mobile eyelid, a light blue under the brow and a dark blue in the crease and outer third corner of the eye.
  • Dramatic Eyes

Brown eyes pop when the makeup look is done in a smoky way. The blackest black can be used without reservation to bring out lighter eyes and a smoky grey look is spectacular with darker brown irises.

    Eyeliner

Here you can have your pick – black, grey, navy blue, royal blue, green, gold and purple can be used to add just a pop of colour in a neutral or an otherwise monochromatic eye makeup look. Since these colour placements are closer to the iris than eyeshadows, they cause the eyes themselves to become the star of the show.

    Coloured Mascara

A healthy dose of black mascara looks great with any eye colour but have you considered how beautifully framed lashes can benefit from an added touch of colour? The same touch of gold, green, purple and blue to the tips of the lashes can add a subtle contrast to an otherwise simple makeup look as well as amp up the wow factor in direct sunlight.

Don't afraid to try subtly coloured false lashes as well. This way there is no risk of smudging colour from wet mascara tips onto already applied eyeshadow and if the overall look is more than you are willing to try at the time, you can simply (and gently) remove the falsies.

Brown eyed girls have the liberty to try any look from the most subtle to the extremely daring. Go ahead and just try it.
