Black Eye Makeup

Most of those with darker skins and Asian heritage have been blessed with eyes so dark that they appear to be black. This is surely a gift as these eyes are already so piercing that it takes little comparative effort for makeup for black eyes stand out.

You can use either jewel tones or pastels to ad wonderful contrast to the black eyes.

Jewel Tones

Use ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue, diamond white, amethyst purple, yellow gold, steel silver to add pop to your eyes!

  • You can leave the under brow area free of eyeshadow or use a very light matte dusting of colour.
  • Use a jewel colour on the mobile eyelid and blend upwards and outwards.
  • Use that same colour (or another jewel tone, for example, blue then gold) and run along the entire bottom lash line where the lashes grow.
  • Connect with the colour on top.
  • Use black eyeliner on the top lash line only.
  • Place a white or flesh coloured eyeliner on the waterline.
  • Apply oodles of mascara, especially on the bottom lashes.
  • Pastel Colours

Pale colours would draw out the intensity of a black gaze more.

  • Use a nice frosty powder eyeshadow or cream eyeshadow in a light pearly colour from lash line to brow.
  • It is optional to use any black mascara in this case. If you like to, only draw a thin line close to the upper lashes.
  • Smear an eyeliner pencil in a vanilla shade on the waterline.
  • Apply two or more coats of thickening mascara on the lashes, working first on the roots and extending to the tips.
  • Eyeliner

On a neutral coloured eye makeup look, coloured mascara would add some interest.

  • Use a matte or slightly pearlescent eyeshadow on all over the eyelids.
  • With a cream or liquid eyeliner in an eye catching colour, line the upper and lower lash lines.
  • Set with an eyeshadow the same colour of the eyeliner for a smudge proof finish.
  • Finish up with two coats of mascara on both sets of lashes.
  • Mascara

For black eyes black and metallic or even glitter mascara adds an extra something to the eyes. For a night out, metallics are a perfect way to get attention.

  • Apply two coats of your usual black mascara to your lashes, concentrating on those on the bottom and outer edge of the top lashes.
  • Allow to dry.
  • With a metallic or glitter eyeliner or mascara, apply an even coat to the top half of the lashes. Reapply for more intensity if desired.
  • For extra vamp to an otherwise very black smoky eye, run some glitter under the lower lashes. This glitter edge would have heads turning in your direction, guaranteed!
