Beauty Products At Home

If my medicine cabinet is any indication, it's usually a place that holds a whole set of tubes and bottles that stand proudly on the shelves. So too are your kitchen cupboards. Sometimes it helps to rummage through these cabinets and see what you can find. There are all sorts of 'goodies' in there that you wouldn't have thought to use other than what is prescribed. Now, I'm not saying to disregard what the box or bottle says, because that is vital to ensuring the product is used correctly. However, there are other possible uses for the tubes and bottles in there. Please don't use expired products - throw away past the expiry date printed on the box or cover.

Vitamin E Gels

Burst open one of these capsules and apply to hair and face nightly. Vitamin E's moisturising properties restore and increase health and vitality. You would awake to supple skin and luxurious hair.

Candid B and Hydrocortisone Creams

The anti-inflammatory medicine in these creams makes them perfect for topical treatment of pimples. Apply daily to see those suckers dwindle into nothingness.

Monistat Chaffing Gel

Please do not be alarmed by the name. Do you know many makeup artists use this as a primer for the skin? The same properties that relieve chaffing smooth the surface of the skin to create a perfect canvas for foundation application.

Benzoyl Peroxide Wash

This contains the main ingredient in acne fighting brands like Proactive. To dry up a pimple in a short space of time, apply a concentrated dab to the offensive zit and leave on overnight. Within a couple of days, the pimple would be history.

Witch Hazel or Rose Water

Everyone has heard of the facial cleansing routine "cleanse, tone and moisturise". But sometimes the toners available may be too harsh on your delicate skin due to the amount of alcohol in the products. I, myself, steer clear of those kinds of astringents. A more face friendly solution is dabbing a cotton ball (damp the ball 1st with water if you find the witch hazel is too strong) and pass over face once after cleansing and before moisturising.

Milk and Honey Facial

This one is in your kitchen cabinet. A couple of drops of honey mixed with half a teaspoon of milk can be smoothed on to the skin. It dries to a sticky finish that when washed off leaves you with cheeks smoother than a baby's bottom. A thicker option is to use plain yogurt in the same manner.

Glycerine

Using one part glycerine to nine parts water, you can put this mixture into a spray bottle and tote it around. Whenever your face feels hot and bothered, spray a few light mists and your skin is instantly refreshed. This same glycerine mist sprayed over your foundation guarantees your foundation won't shift or fade as you go through your day.

And there you have it: your home cabinets turned beauty treatments are right at your fingertips.
