How to Apply and Remove False Lashes
Long luscious lashes are definitely in. They’re flirtatious, coy and draw attention to the eyes like moths to a flame. So what happens when your natural lashes are not so long and flirty, when in fact they are barely noticeable? It’s pretty simple: buy new ones!
False eyelashes came in various shapes, sizes and types. They are long, medium and short. They are natural looking, outrageous and downright scandalous. There are strips, individual clusters and single strands. They are coloured and brown and black. They are thick and sparse. There are for lower and upper lashes.
Application Steps for Strips
Strip eyelashes are an entire line of lash strands held together by a semi sticky clear or black band. This is the most popular form of false eyelashes mainly because they are so easy to apply for an occasion and remove before hitting the sheets.
- Pull the strip gently from its holder. The gentlest way to do this is to roll your thumb outwards on the lashes so they detach from the plastic without sacrificing any lashes.
- Place the strip against your lash line to measure the length. If it is too long, cut the excess with a cuticle scissors from the outer edge of the strip.
- Curl or straighten eyelashes with a heated eyelash curler, if needed.
- Put a thin strip of Duo glue (the only kind I recommend for strips) along the band. Focus more on the ends since these are the first parts of the strips that become detached after extended wear.
- Wait 60 seconds for glue to get tacky.
- While the glue is getting tacky, flex the lash strip so it is more pliable to work along the contours of your eyelid.
- Using a tweezers, an eyelash applicator or your fingers, apply the strip as close as possible to your lash line (not on the lid, folks), working from one corner to the next. Press along the entire strip to ensure it is secure.
- Blend your natural lashes to the false ones with a bit of mascara. I prefer to use clear mascara for this so that the blending is seamless.
Removal steps for strips
When the night is over, removal of strips is very easy.
- With your fingers pull the strip gently from your lash line starting from the outer edge.
- Pick off the dried glue from the band of the lashes.
- Clean the lashes gently with eye makeup remover to get rid of any mascara residue.
- Store on the plastic holder to reshape them and keep them for future use.
Application Steps for Individual Lashes
This type is a favourite with those that would like to keep their false lashes in for daily wear. With proper and diligent care, one application should last up to two weeks.
- Using a tweezers, gently detach the flare from its case.
- Dip the knot at the end of the flare into a small dot of glue for individual lashes. Ardell is a good brand to try.
- Apply the flare to the base of your natural lashes, by firstly filling in the gaps in your lash line and adding more as desired.
- When all the flares are in place and the glue has dried, use the tweezers to squeeze the base of the lashes tightly to the false ones. This makes it more of a natural look too.
Removal steps for individual lashes
- Soak a cotton bud into eyelash remover.
- Run along the lash line until the false lashes become loose.
- Press a cotton pad against the lashes and wiggle gently until they have been removed.
There you have it! Flawless falsies!
