60’s Makeup

About 60’s Makeup

I think one of the most famous persons of the 1960s was Twiggy. Her look was unmistakable and fresh at the same time. With almost a tomboyish look, her appearance onto the European model scene took the world by storm so much so that her name and face are still recognisable today.

This is a simple guide to recreating the mod look that was so in at that time.

60´s Face Makeup

  • The face was very clean and clear. Freckles were embraced, not hidden. Instead of using a heavier liquid foundation, you can either sheer it out by mixing it with moisturiser or using a tinted moisturiser. This would give your face some colour and even out the skin tone without covering the soft texture of the skin.
  • If you have no freckles and want to add some, use an eyeliner brush and a foundation that is two shades darker than your skin. Just dot little spots lightly to the inner cheeks and bridge of the nose to mimic actual freckles.
  • Set the makeup with a little translucent powder.
  • Use a light dusting of a matte peach blush along the cheekbones if you are fair. If you have darker skin, orange would work better.
  • 60´s Eyes Makeup

  • Use a beige or vanilla eyeshadow all over the eyelids to brighten and open the eyes.
  • Apply black liquid eyeliner along the upper lash line. At the inner corners, extend the line downwards just a little bit to make the eyes look bigger.
  • Use three or more coats of mascara on the top and bottom lashes so that they have a flared spiky appearance. If this is not possible with your natural eyelashes, use strip false lashes like Ardell’s 104 or 116 lashes. Blend into your own eyelashes with mascara.
  • Line the inner lower lash line with a vanilla pencil. Remember, we want to achieve a wide eyed innocent look, at the core of which is big, bright eyes.
  • The eyebrows should be groomed as well, following their natural pattern and accentuating the arches. Fix with a brow gel or clear mascara.
  • 60´s Lips Makeup

  • Skip the lip liner in this instance. Moisturise the lips with a creamy balm.
  • Apply a light pink gloss to the centre of the top and bottom lips, avoiding the boundaries of the mouth. The effect would be very fresh and natural.
  • Now you’re ready to join in with your new old mod look.
